Private benchmarks often show open models are further behind, but the problem with private benchmarks is you don’t have the community to squash the inevitable bugs for you. I'm 50/50 on if I think private or open-source is the best approach.

Artificial Analysis finally moves to closed benchmarks (goodbye & good riddance, GDPval-AA), and finds that open weights models are falling further behind than they had previously measured. Take with a grain of salt, but matches the general vibes that we haven't seen a Fable-class open model.

Important, but not unexpected, finding that experts working with AI agents are swayed by the positions of the AI, even if they think they aren't. If your independent judgement matters on a task, you need to be deliberate about when in the process to bring in AI. www.anthropic.com/research/age...

The end of detailed summarized thinking traces for Claude and ChatGPT (likely both for anti-distillation & to simplify UX) has made being a human in the loop challenging. It pushes us towards automation, rather than augmentation, as it has become much harder to weigh in on in-process AI work.

I think it's vastly underrated how important org chart and team functionality is to building a good LLM. Over 18 months old, and still one of my favorite all time Interconnects posts. It's why we still often see orgs crumble and need to get rebuilt (e.g. Llama/xAI) & why underdogs can still catch up

I had GPT-6 Pro re-analyze the fun finding that violent video games reduce crime, as people stay home playing them. It downloaded fresh crime data and extended prior work. Yes, GTA V's 2013 launch was linked with a dip in violence internationally. Other Rockstar games are more ambiguous, though.
